River North Chicago is home to some of the hottest and most respected restaurants in all of Chicago. If you love Sushi, then it doesn't get better than River North Chicago! I am a recently converted fan of sushi and I am very happy I expanded my culinary palet. With that being said, I have enjoyed Sushi at several River North Sushi establishments when im not to busy selling River North Real Estate.. Here are my favorites:
JAPONAISE
I just turned 33 last week and I spent my birthday at Japonaise with my closest friends, family and clients.
The first floor houses the open and spacious dining area. The sushi is fresh, the rolls are good sizes and the prices for sushi are pretty reasonable, especially for the location.. Good service as well!
The crowded downstairs bar/lounge is not as busy as it used to be (which is fine by me!) The drinks downstairs are on the pricey side..But table service is easy to get and they have a real nice outdoor set up.. I spent my birthday on their outdoor section that overlooks the Chicago River eating sushi and drinking my kettle one on the rocks. The scene is standard River North: Young, Professional and Attractive... You can usually spot a chicago celebrity here on the weekends.. Dress code varies.. You can be as dressed up as you want to be and as laid back as you want to be (gym shoes are allowed)
SUSHI SAMBA rio
Sushi Samba rio is another good spot for Sushi in the River North neighborhood... The atmosphere and look of the restaurant is very cool and flows with the rest of the Sushi Samba locations all throughout the U.S.A....Every time I have eaten here the service has been fantastic! Their rolls are fresh but a bit on the expensive side however..Dress code varies here as well..And the scene here is exactly like Japonaise
SUNDA
From the guys who brought you ROCKIT and The UNDERGROUND, Sunda is the hottest and newest River North Sushi Spot! This super trendy and upscale sushi spot is Rockit Rach's newest endeavour. Sunda has a good size dining area, lounge, sushi bar and prvate party rooms. The food here is Fantastic, but the portions are small and it is Way Overpriced.. This is definetely a place to be seen as it is packed every night.. Sunda is also the hottest celebrity spot right now.. You are almost guaranteed to run into a Chicago Celebrity or Hollywood celebrity.. Dress code is casual.. Scene is Celebrities and Celebrity wanna be's.
Definetely worth checking out at least once...
Ai
Located in the Kingsbury Ontario Corridor, Ai has been around for a while.. The Sushi is definetely fresh, decent roll sizes and the prices aren't too bad.. They do alot of happy hour promotions with $4 Sushi and Cocktails..They also have live jazz nights which seems a bit out of place for a sushi spot..Service is hit or miss.. Casual Dress code
OYSY
Fresh, good quality sushi and decent roll sizes..Good service but a bit on the overpriced side..
casual dress code.
